One of the key benefits of being a member of our Union is access to our team of trained Caseworkers who can represent you in the event of a workplace dispute, to seek a resolution in line with employment law and your terms and conditions.
We can also provide lower-level “in-meeting” support, whereby we can arrange for an experienced trade union member to accompany (not represent) you to meetings with line management and/or HR; this form of support can in and of itself be effective, bringing as it does a third-party dynamic to meetings in addition to psychological comfort and the practical benefit of having someone with you taking notes.
GUIDANCE FOR REQUESTING casework support
Normally Strathclyde UCU will only offer its help to UCU members of more than 90 days standing, and is not normally able to provide assistance to members who have only joined once the problem has become apparent.
Exceptionally, help in the form of one meeting with a caseworker may be given to non-members (or late joiners) in either of the following cases:
i) the member of staff has only recently become eligible to join UCU;
ii) the problem is one which Strathclyde UCU believes should be pursued in the general interests of all members
